Star Jones Reynolds Captivates Fresh Start Audiences with her Passion and Commitment

Phoenix, AZ (February 9, 2007) Fresh Start Women’s Foundation welcomed, former T.V talk show host and best selling author, Star Jones Reynolds to the Women’s Resource Center. On February 9, 2007, Star presented a workshop to Fresh Start clients on her top 10 tips to a successful interview. Also on her trip, Star charmed staff and board members at a cocktail reception, as well as emceed the 11 th annual Fresh Start Fashion Gala on Saturday evening.

This was the second trip to the Jewel McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Women’s Resource Center for this noted personality. Back in April 2006 when she toured the Center and donated over 40 brand new books to the Foundation’s library all focused on women’s issues, Star fell in love with our work. Subsequently, Star made the commitment to help Fresh Start in any possible way.

Before the start of the workshop, the staff at the Center spent a few moments with Star at a delightful little dinner, where she was presented by Fresh Start CEO, Sandy Cowen, with a staff autographed book titled, Gratitude as a token of our appreciation for her dedication to the women we serve.

Following this event, at the cocktail reception, Star appeared with many of the Fresh Start board members. As Star posed for pictures with guests, she also took time to visit with 2007 Fashion Gala co-chairs Cathy Kleeman and Debbie Simons, Founder’s of Fresh Start, Pat Petznick and Beverly Stewart and other dignitaries present.

Immediately following the reception, Star was greeted by a packed house of over 200 women waiting to hear her give clever and practical tips on the do’s and don’ts of interviewing for a job and how good interviewing skills are useful in other facets of life-including relationship building and negotiating. Most importantly she told women that in order to succeed and find fulfillment in a job and in life one had to be passionate about what they were doing. “Once you stop worrying about yourself and concentrate on the needs of other’s then you will excel at anything,” Star stated.

It was apparent to everyone who spent time with Star Jones Reynolds over the weekend that she shared in the passion, commitment, and mission of Fresh Start. “It’s magnificent that Fresh Start works with every aspect of a woman’s transition,” says Star. “We are women who are helping each other, and I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Even as young teens, Pat and Beverly wanted to help women, who like their grandmother, suddenly became the whole support of their families. Over the years, the Arizona natives became ardent community activists on behalf of women. In 1992, Pat Petznick and Beverly Stewart were in a position to personally and professionally reach out to women in need. The initial offering was a day of pampering at Rolf’s Salon, then co-owned by Pat, Beverly and Rolf Lohse. The women theorized that a new hair style and personalized make-up were immediate ways to boost one’s confidence and increase self-esteem. Each month 20 women from shelters and social service agencies were invited to “A Fresh Start Day of Beauty at Rolf’s.” This core Fresh Start service remains in place today through Rolf’s Salon as well as through the Self-Esteem Room at the Foundation’s Women’s Resource Center.
